I was fortunate enough to make it all the way to Egypt to see my favorite band in the whole world. I had never even left the country before & I got my first passport just because of the Grateful Dead. The energy at those shows seemed almost not of this world. Something bigger than all of us was going on there, with The Pyramids and The Sphinx. The local people really seemed psyched we were there. I still get chills when ever I think about it. | I was in Louisville at Freedom Hall. I ended up ticketless and stayed around waiting for friends who had tickets. As the show was going on I started picking up trash to help keep the scene clean. Some other people noticed and started to help. We ended up as a group of people dancing around and picking up trash together and we had a great time!

A strong blues influence runs deep in the Grateful Dead and dates back to their formative days as The Warlocks. The Dead was blessed early on with one of the countrys premier blues performers. He was known for his powerful vocals, and intense keyboard and harmonica playing. A crowd favorite, he could energize an entire show with his strong stage presence and his love of the music. | I was at The Compton Terrace Amphitheatre in Arizona right before the show, waiting for it to start, when people started guessing what they might open with. I spoke up and said I feel something special about to happen. Everyone laughed (I guess Ive said this before) just as the opening notes of Here Comes Sunshine started to fill the air. They hadnt played it in 18 years!

Its really not MY memory but my parents. I was born at Woodstock while the Grateful Dead were onstage. The boys considered it their worst show but it will always be my folks favorite. My mom was clad in nothing but mud and flowers. Given the options, Im glad they chose the name Daisy! | I was at a show in Hartford, when I saw what I thought was a Cop giving someone selling stickers a hard time. I went up to see what was going on just in time to see the police officer giving the guy money for the stickers he had just bought. He said, if he wasnt on duty, hed be in the show. He unbuttoned a couple of buttons on his uniform and he had a tie dye on underneath. How cool!

My favorite thing in the world to do was listen to Brent. With that voice of his and the way he could play the organ, it just blew me away. He really brought lots of life into the band. Dear Mr. Fantasy into Hey Jude was a show stopper for me every time I was lucky enough to catch it. I really miss Brent. | I was at a show at RFK, when I noticed a beautiful girl noticing me. We kept dancing closer and closer to each other until we finally spoke. We ended up dancing together all night. The show ended, we hugged and I left. I bought a rose the next night in hopes of seeing her again. I went to the same spot and there she was hoping to see me! We only knew each other for those two nights but Ill never forget her.

I was at Shoreline when I came upon a little girl all alone and in tears. I stopped and asked where her parents were and she said, lost. She stopped crying and told me where she had seen her parents last. After a short search, we were lucky enough to find her parents. They were so grateful that they took all of us to their house after the show and cooked a feast for all. Another tragedy narrowly averted. | I was at an outdoor venue, actually I dont remember where, when I saw the coolest thing. I saw THE MOST shooting stars ever. It seemed like every time Jerry hit a different note another star shot across the sky. Whenever I tried to have someone else see them, they were gone. Nobody could confirm the night of the shooting stars but it was beautiful.

The show at Nassau with Branford Marsalis is still one of my favorite shows ever. The band sounded so great with him playing with them. They all seemed to be having so much fun and the audience was absolutely losing their minds. It was never my favorite venue, but it was rockin that night for sure. | I think my coolest Dead memory wasnt even at a Dead show, it was at Saturday Night Live. My friend and I scored tickets to SNL the night the boys were on and played Alabama Getaway and Saint of Circumstance. I had never seen SNL live before and add to that the Grateful Dead. It was a once-in-a-lifetime event that Ill never forget.

My favorite thing about being on tour was that even someone you had never met before would rather say hi, flash you a great big smile or even give you a hug than just walk past you staring at their shoes. I wish it was always like that.
